Hi Lilykin. I'm not on FA, but if you could send me a copy/paste of their policy regarding shota, I'd be interested in reading it. Thanks

DISCLAIMER: I am 100% anti-pedophilia and I have actually done trafficking rescues. I have also reported actual suspected incidents.

However, as someone who used to have a girlfriend with a genetic disorder that stopped her growth at 4'10," two close friends with metabolic disorders, and my suffering complications related to CAH and eating disorders which caused me to look like I was 16 until I was 30, the whole thing about excluding perfectly legal drawings of adults that resemble "minors" is not only excessive, but it's outright ableist and body shaming.

It should be the viewer's responsibility to NOT disable the shota filter, especially in jurisdictions where this type of art is illegal, if they don't want to see shota.

When I was 18 and out for lunch with my mother and grandmother, my mother was asked if I needed a kids menu (11 and under). This memory has been ingrained in me to the point of bitterness whenever my age is assumed. When I was in my 20's I was constantly beaned as a teenager. Even now I'm still only getting 20 to maybe 25 if I'm already visibly offended by "you're too young for [x]" which is ablest in itself.

My best friend took her cousin to her high school opening, they have around a 10 year age gap. While the cousin was checking the place out, my friend was asked what grade she is. "Oh, I graduated college some years ago, also I'm married."

When style is involved it blurs even farther. I have a colorful, cutesy-esque style; even my adults with older children look fairly young.

Hello, artist here who is asking that you guys don't change the policy. At the very least, certainly do not change it to a "no minors allowed" policy. I do think it would be good, like someone else suggested, to break it into multiple categories, such as a general underage filter and then a shota filter for younger characters.

In the end, art has neither crime nor victim. I would invite folks like lilykin to explain to me why they don't spend their time crusading against depictions of minors engaged in sexual activity in mainstream media, or spend their time actually working to help survivors of CSA. Explain to me how disallowing fictional content helps prevent CSA.

It takes only cursory research to find that trying to censor or eliminate fictional depictions of minors engaging in sexual activity does not do anything to curb actual CSA. (While controversial, some studies show that increasing access to such materials actually decreased incidence of actual CSA.)

Anyway, stepping away from the impact on CSA side of it, there are a lot of fanartists of JP media who are looking for refuge since tumblr's NSFW ban, and while some have moved to twitter, it is a platform that is extremely prone to harassment. As such a fanartist myself, it's exciting to have a dedicated gallery again that won't oust me just because I occasionally draw guys from a shounen anime banging or something. If y!gal disallows that, it'll just be yet another platform that chose censorship and puritanism over freedom in art, and many of us will have to leave.

tl;dr There is no proof that sexual depictions of minors cause or even have any clear correlation to CSA, and it's not fair to disallow it b/c it disgusts people when this site allows many other subjects which can also trigger or disgust people. It is a user's responsibility to filter and a poster's responsibility to tag properly, and that should be the end of it.

a few counterpoints:

tumblr's issue was with the istore's policy, if I remember correctly, and mostly because of the very real porn on its site, and pornbots running rampant (which I believe is still not solved even if their tos has changed, but thank god they stopped the drawn porn, amirite?). y!gal does not allow for imagery of real people, or even too realistic art of people under the age of 16, if it did, this would be a completely different discussion.

I believe I have come across several places where people have asked lawyers whether DRAWN art of minors in sexual situations is illegal, and the answer has been no every time. Unfortunately I don't have links to this, nor am I a legal expert, so this point should definitely be explored by the mods, I don't think anyone would want y!gal to be shut down due to legal issues.

As for the ethical side, I won't go into that discussion, because I don't think it will change your mind, nor am I into shota/loli so I'm not the right person to go into a discussion about it. However, it is important to remember that art is a safe way to explore and express fantasies or even otherwise unacceptable cravings without feeling the need to seek it out irl.

Lastly, I'll just point out that there's plenty of things allowed on this site that is not purely good, seen from an ethical view, such as rape, death, violence, necrophilia, gore and vore. I have seen plenty of art on this site that I'm uncomfortable with or that brings out disgust in me, but that doesn't mean I will call for a ban on such things. Personally I'm more disturbed by the growing puritanism online. Puritanism has never led to a better society, just a more repressed society based on shaming people after increasingly stricter moral views. That's not the way I wish to see y!gal go.

I won't be replying to this comment, it just needed to be said.
